Chemicals Properties
Composition: Approximately 20% w/v Magnesium nitrate (Mg(NO₃)₂·6H₂O) in dilute nitric acid.
Appearance: Clear, colorless solution.
Sensitivity: Produces a white crystalline precipitate of MgNH₄PO₄ with phosphates in ammoniacal solution, but not with arsenates under the same conditions.
Specificity Test: Passes test (distinguishes phosphate from arsenate).
