Assay: Complies with sensitivity test for ammonia.
Appearance: Clear, pale yellow to brownish solution.
Sensitivity Test: With a solution containing 0.005 mg of nitrogen (as NH₄⁺) in 50 mL of ammonia-free water, produces a distinct yellow to brown color within 5 minutes.
Composition: Alkaline solution of potassium tetraiodomercurate(II) (K₂HgI₄).
Color Stability: No precipitate should form in 24 hours.

Hazard: Toxic if swallowed. Causes severe skin burns and eye damage. Very toxic to aquatic life.
